It is a part of Geneva history: Nicolas-Bouvier business schoolwhich overlooks the Rhône on the hill of Saint-Jean, celebrates its 60th anniversary. The establishment, in which thousands of students have studied, will mark the blow, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.during a very special day.
The opportunity for the director, Patrick Canellini, to evoke the past, but also the future of what was sometimes the first “Grande École de Comm ‘”, sometimes a mixed establishment, also welcoming college students.
Patrick Canellini, your establishment is 60 years old, what is it?
Patrick Canellini: It is moving to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nicolas-Bouvier, which represents a end of the history of the business school in Geneva!
At the time of its construction, in 1963, there were several small business schools, scattered in the canton. There was a desire to bring them together in a single central establishment and to make them “the business school in Geneva”.
The building, designed by the architect Georges Addor, was inaugurated in 1964 by André Chavanne, then State Councilor at the head of the DIP. Times are changing, there are five business schools today in Geneva.
From 1998 to 2010, Nicolas-Bouvier was a mixed establishment, also welcoming college students…
Exactly! It is also the only mixed school to have lost this singularity, on a decision of the former magistrate Charles Beer. It’s a shame, the establishment has lost a little life, because college students live and invest more premises than business school students. But we always have great projects, such as the student committee and a humanitarian group.

What makes your establishment particularity?
I believe that the Nicolas-Bouvier business school is special because it is marked by great resilience and an adaptability, linked to the many changes and reforms it has crossed in sixty years.
Today, the whole landscape of Geneva and Swiss training is changing. This retrospective meeting is also a way of turning to the future.
What is the program for this anniversary day?
We will start with an official ceremony during which we will inaugurate a very beautiful 10 -meter fresco. Then, some classrooms will be open to the public with thematic animations. One of them will, for example, devoted to the 1960s, with old equipment such as writing machines. We will also broadcast a film with the testimonies of several former directors.
The public will also be able to take advantage of the food trucks planned for the occasion. We hope to see many former students and collaborators again. After all, Nicolas-Bouvier, it’s a big family.
