Mabouba Diagne urges financial partners to invest in agriculture

Diamniadio, May 6 (APS) – The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Mabouba Diagne urged banks and other financial partners to invest more in the agriculture and farming sector to allow the government to take up the challenge of sovereignty and food security.

“We cannot succeed in the bet of self -sufficiency and food security without having a banking sector that follows and accompanies us. Dear bankers you have a duty to the country, “he said on Monday duringA meeting of presentation of the agricultural sector financing strategy and farming to technical and financial partners, the banking sector in particular.

”We should together so that bankers better understand the agricultural and livestock sector to be able to invest, ” he said Mabouba Diagne, ensuring having “intimate that with a mobilization of the banking sector, the will of the President of the Republic, of his Prime Minister, we can take up the challenges, in a dynamic of JUB JUBAL JUBANTI”.

”I am absolutely convinced that you can invest in agriculture. The performances we have had on the onion and the potato prove to us that it is possible. I therefore the banks and financial institutions established in Senegal to invest in the agricultural sector, ” reiterated Mr. Diagne.

The Minister of Agriculture stressed that the State and actors in the agricultural sector and livestock rely on the banking sector to meet the challenges of food sovereignty. ” We have all the tools to make it work. People trust us and if we want to transform the economy of this country, I am sure that Senegal can do it ”, he said.

He indicated that Africa imports between $ 70 and 100 billion to eat, reminding bankers that ” as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR), we have the right to make money, to create jobs, and to feed our populations ”.
