An innovative approach. At the Paule-de-Viguier hospital of the Toulouse CHU, A transparent sterile field offers parents the possibility of seeing their child born And, if they wish, to participate actively in childbirth.
Equipped with sterile arm protectors, The field allows the mother to insert her arms safely to welcome her baby as soon as she came to the world. Beyond emotion, this strong gesture is also beneficial for professionals mobilized around this unique moment.
Today proposed as part of the programmed cesareans, This system is intended to be gradually extended to the cesareans produced in “green code” emergencies. The teams could quickly offer it to 750 families per year.
A project in line with the values of maternity
The system is fully part of the commitments carried out by the Maternity Paule-De Viguier, labeled in the IHAB approach. This approach aims to promote benevolent and individualized support for birth.
The hospital, which produces 300 cesareans programmed per year, wishes to offer more and more practices centered on humans, listening and quality of the caregiver-caregiver relationship. As type 3 maternity, Paule-de Viguier has advanced medical equipment.
In December 2023, the establishment was labeled for its Very high health, social and environmental quality (THQSE) by obtaining the Gold level with a 91 % score. Valid for three years, this label engages its teams in an approach that is part of time.
