Marvel: our classification of movies in phase 5 of the MCU, from the worst to the best

The film Thunderbolds * has just been released in the cinema, bringing a conclusion to phase 5 of the MCU started in February 2023. In a little over two years, the famous shared universe of Marvel will thus have delivered six quality films, say … very unequal.

Trapped in the heavy chronology of the MCU, The Marvels Try to pick up songs, and keep the spectator concerned … in vain. Plat, clumsy and without ideas, the film is 20 years late and forgets as quickly as it has seen itself. A failure.

5th – Captain America : Brave new world

Handicapped by its chaotic production, poor writing and a glaring lack of vision, Captain America: Brave New World is yet another Soulless Marvel production and with doubtful choices. If the fans will be delighted with the few exciting action scenes, the return of certain characters or see Harrison Ford in the MCU, the others will go their way. In the title role, Anthony Mackie is struggling to make Chris Evans forget.

4th – Ant-man and the wasp: Quantumania

Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyne-alias Ant-Man and La Guêpe-and their daughter Cassie find themselves immersed in the quantum kingdom, in the company of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. They will interact with strange new creatures and embark on an odyssey which will push them beyond the limits of what they thought to be possible. They will mainly face Kang the Conqueror, an ambiguous leader of this new world.

Far from the need for Thor : Love and Thunder, Ant-man and the wasp: Quantumania is still too wise and too programmatic, unable to count on his formidable Kang (Jonathan Majors) to spice up everything and compensate a little a silly plot and doubtful artistic choices. A Marvel with “Star Wars” sauce from some beautiful ideas, but which cannot get rid of this missed used taste. Damage.

3rd – Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine Certainly succeeds in his promise of an entertaining spectacle, rolling in nostalgia and a fan-service above all, in particular thanks to the self-deprecation exercise operated by Disney and Marvel. But the adventure unfortunately lacks ideas and breath to be much more than a big joke, and the long -awaited revolution of the MCU. A small 3 stars.

2nd – Thunderbolts *

Anti-heroes Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker will have to team up. Fallen into a formidable trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these completely disillusioned have to participate in a high -risk mission which will force them to confront the darkest corners of their past.

Real breath of fresh air in the MCU, Thunderbolts * is a successful cocktail of action and humor, in an amazing story dealing with interior demons, mental health and on the dark side of superheroes. A nice surprise carried by a solid casting, and which is undoubtedly the best Marvel film since Galaxy 3 guards.

1er – The guards of the Galaxy Vol. 3

While she was preparing to settle in Knowhere, our favorite gang of marginalized sees her destiny turned upside down by the echoes of the dark past of Rocket. Determined to save the life of his teammate, Peter Quill, still in shock from the loss of Gamora, again brings together his squad for a perilous mission. A mission which, if it is not carried out, could well lead to the end of the guards as we know them.

The guards of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a tragicomic blockbuster with a big heart like that, which manages to give a dimension and an unprecedented power to its characters and its themes. An adventure that does not succeed in everything she undertakes, getting lost a little along the way, but which provides a successful conclusion to the trilogy. And even if the bar is very low, the film stands out as the best Marvel since Avengers : Endgame in 2019. Just that.
