A milestone has just been crossed in the energy sovereignty strategy. West Energy (WAE) announced this the effective injection of 127 megawatts (MW) into the national Senelec network. This marks the progressive start of the exploitation of its 366 MW combined cycle thermal power plant under construction in Rufisque.

This energy intake follows the success of the performance of the GT11 turbine, according to the official press release published this Sunday by the company. “This step confirms not only the quality of the engineering mobilized, but also the solidity of the governance of the project,” said WAE.

The power station is part of an ambitious vision of strengthening the national energy offer. At full capacity, it should significantly contribute to the stabilization of the network, to improve the quality of service, and to the support of industrial policies in Senegal.

The project, whose final capacity will reach 366 MW, represents one of the country’s largest energy investments. It aims to reduce load shedding and secure electricity supply in a context of strong growth in demand.

West African Energy praised close collaboration with Senelec, the supervisory authorities and several technical and financial partners.
