Exclusive to Kewoulo this Thursday morning, a building collapsed in the Ngor district, in Dakar, causing great emotion among the inhabitants. The claim occurred between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., not far from the building of the Edk group. The causes of the collapse remain to be confirmed, but the first observations on the spot are oriented towards a collapse of the soil caused by work carried out nearby.
According to the testimonies collected, three people were inside the building at the time of the tragedy. The emergency services quickly intervened. One person could be extracted alive from the rubble by the firefighters, but two other victims are still buried.
Mamadou Diallo, district delegate, said that the owner of an adjoining land would have started digging work the day before the drama. These excavations could have weakened the foundations of the collapsed building, thus causing its collapse.
An investigation was opened to shed light on the circumstances of the accident and locate responsibilities. In the meantime, research continues on the site, in the hope of finding the two missing people.
