The municipality of Casablanca has now prohibited the poster for advertising panels for unauthorized companies and services. This prohibition aims in particular transport services via applications, commonly known as “driver’s transport car” (VTC) which have no legal status in Morocco and “harmful” products for health.
After the proliferation of advertisements for these services which were widely disseminated in the Grand Casablanca, the town decided to put a stop. The prohibition of these urban posters also concerns advertisements deemed too explicit, not respecting public order, morality and morals or national values (without this being clearly explained), we learn from close sources.
According to HESPRESS, the municipal council should approve specifications relating to the temporary occupation of the public domain for commercial advertising purposes. It provides that beneficiaries of public displays authorizations must undertake to provide effective piracy protection programs, in order to avoid the dissemination of messages contrary to law or public order.
The specifications also includes a component prohibiting advertising for products harmful to health such as tobacco or alcoholic beverages, or to advertise for fictitious or unauthorized companies, such as platforms of transport by applications, or companies with pyramid or network management.
The municipal council which must discuss these new provisions had already approved a document in 2024 which had been the subject of remarks of the Directorate of the National Security which had sent a letter explaining missing terms as for compliance with public order, involving these previously mentioned services, making the business objects, prosecution, or having caused scams.
The DGSN had then alerted to the risks linked to the display and promotion of these services which could cause social tensions and demands as to the legality of these activities. The Directorate of National Security had stressed that these services, such as applications by applications by applications or structures with pyramidal management or in networks involved in different cases, causing victims.
