West African Energy (WAE) announced, this May 4, 2025 in a press release, having injected 127 megawatts (MW) into the network of the National electricity Society of Senegal (SENELEC).
This milestone marks the progressive start of the operation of its new combined cycle power plant, located in Rufisque, whose total capacity will reach 366 MW once completed.
This partial commissioning follows the conclusive tests of the GT11 turbine. It constitutes a major step, both technical and institutionally, in strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure.

The Rufisque power station, one of the most ambitious in Senegal, benefits from high -level engineering and rigorous management. The project is led by Mr. Samuel A. Sarr, who has effectively coordinated human and technical resources to concretize this strategic achievement.
Selon West African Energy, «Once fully operational, the 366 MW power station will significantly contribute to stabilization of the national network, to improve the quality of the public electricity service, and to the support of the industrial and economic policies of Senegal.»
The company expressed its gratitude to its institutional, technical and financial partners, in particular Africa Finance Corporation, Coris Bank International, Afreximbank, General Electric, çalik Enerji, as well as several engineering and advice offices, for their decisive support in the success of this project.
