The research and rescue teams in Jordan found the bodies of a Belgian mother and her son, one day after the woman and her three children were missing in sudden floods.
The other two children in the same family were found alive.
Sunday floods in southern Jordan also led to the evacuation of hundreds of tourists from the archaeological site of Petra, the main tourist attraction of the country.
The mother and the children were part of a group of 18 tourists who participated in an adventure excursion in the region, when they were taken in the sudden flood, said local governor of the district of Ma’an, Hassan al-Jabour, on the Al-Mamlaka television channel, a state media.
Fourteen tourists, all of Czech nationality, were rescued on Sunday.
The rescue teams found two of the living children of the deceased Belgian tourist.
The research and rescue operation was suspended around 2 a.m. due to the complexity of weather and land conditions.
The bodies of the woman and her son were found on Monday morning after the resumption of research.
Jordan often experiences sudden floods when the heavy seasonal rains send water torrents to the dry valleys of the desert.
At least three people died in 2021 when flood waters won their car, while more than 30 people were killed in sudden floods that hit Petra and the Jordanian Coast of the Dead Sea during two distinct floods in 2018.
