A seismic shock of a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale was recorded this Sunday at 7:22 pm by the research center in astronomy, astrophysics and geophysics (CRAG). The earthquake was located 7 kilometers southwest of the town of Beni Fouda, in the wilaya of Sétif.
According to the official press release from CRAAG, the earthquake did not cause material damage or human losses, but it was felt by the local population. Several residents of the neighboring areas reported having felt a slight shock, followed by a brief moment of panic, especially among families living in height or in old buildings. Local authorities have not reported any serious incident at present.

The CRAG, responsible for monitoring seismic activity on the national territory, quickly disseminated the technical data relating to this jolt, recalling that Algeria is located in an active seismic area, due to its position on the limit of African and Eurasian tectonic plates. Low -intensity shocks are regularly recorded, especially in the northern regions of the country.

This new shock revives the question of prevention and awareness of seismic risks, especially in regions with high population density. Specialists insist on the need to strengthen seismic construction standards, especially for old or informal housing. They also recall the importance of vigilance and respect for safety instructions in the event of an earthquake.
-No damage reported
The local authorities of Beni Fouda, for their part, indicated that they remained on alert and ready to intervene if any replicas occurred. No call for evacuation was launched, but the civil protection services carried out a control tour in the sensitive districts to reassure the inhabitants.

For the moment, the CRAAG continues to monitor the area and do not exclude other tremors, even if these are generally low intensity. Citizens are invited to remain calm, to follow the official newsletters, and to avoid relaying false information on social networks.
Algeria, regularly confronted with seismic movements, focuses on information and preparation to minimize the risks linked to these natural phenomena.
