The 80 -year -old woman participated in a hike with other retirees from an association in Bayonne. Leaving since 9 am with her group, the octogenarian unscrewed on the way back while she was going down on the slopes of Bidarray, relates South West.
In mountaineering, unscrewing means losing balance and sliding on an inclined surface, potentially over a long distance.
-The woman fell by several tens of meters below in an area that is difficult to access by the Peñas d’Itsusi.
An open investigation
Alerted, the emergency services went to the place by helicopter as well as investigators from the gendarmerie to make observations. The octogenarian was declared deceased, according to our colleagues from South West.
An investigation was opened to shed light on the circumstances of his fall.
