The emotion was particularly strong on May 2 in the small church of Montagnole, in Savoie, where the funeral of Margot Simond took place. On May 24, the young French ski champion lost her life at only 18 years old in terrible circumstances. Present at the Red Bull Alpine Park in Val d’Isère (Savoie) to participate in this event which brought together stars and hopes of skiing, she was the victim of a fatal accident during training. The latter violently struck the top of a tunnel at the chest level while it was on the Bellevarde estate, one of the most emblematic descents of the Savoyard station.
Despite the rapid intervention of an emergency doctor, Margot Simond could not be saved. A drama that obviously led to the cancellation of the Red Bull Alpine Park and now, his relatives want answers. “When I read the course, I had anxiety, I didn’t feel well. I had a bad feeling. If we missed the jump, what was going on? We arrive on hard snow like concretewithout any protection. Not a mattress ”explains the mother of the late skier to the Parisianbefore adding: “Basically, we think that Margot was the victim of an injustice. This module was too risky.” Same observation on the side of the sportswoman’s father, who claims transparency: “We ask ourselves a lot of questions about the circumstances of the accident. We should not die on an event like that”.
An arrival in the too fast “forest of stakes”?
-After the painful funeral of Margot Simond, now comes the time to answer questions from his loved ones. In an article dedicated to the young woman, The team try to provide elements of response, in particular by going to see the witnesses of the accident that cost him his life. Indeed, before taking the jump that was fatal to him, Margot Simond had to cross the famous “piquet forest” supposed to slow down skiers who must slalom inside, to avoid an overly rapid arrival on the jump of 10 meters that follows.
For the time being, these are only hypotheses, but the Albertville prosecution (Savoie) has opened an investigation to try to find the answers to the death of Margot Simond.
