In the near future, the land is devastated by pollution and climatic disasters. Some privileged, however, lead a comfortable life, in enclosures well protected from external vagaries. But they cannot be too numerous, under penalty of exhausting the resources they have. Couples cannot therefore decide to have a child.
They must request an authorization, then undergo an assessment, sesame essential before any design. Mia and Aaryan, two scientists who dream of becoming parents, therefore receive at home, for a week and at their expense, an expert, whose decision will be irrevocable …
A five -star casting
For his first film, released in theaters at the end of March in the United States, but proposed with us on Prime Video after a visit to the last Paris Fantastic Film Festival, Fleur Fortuné, French director of clips, notably for M83, managed to train beautiful people: Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel universe, including the series “Wandavision”) and Alicia Vikander (last Lara Crofer) are heroines of icy dystopia, which we hope will remain at the stage of science fiction. Already because of the frame mentioned, a planet out of breath where some elected officials try to maintain an existence similar to ours while the rest of the world is collapsing.
But also, because no one would like to experience the evaluation experienced by Mia and Aaryan. Because the latter quickly realize that their “guest”, at the start, makes them live a hell. All powerful, since her decision will not suffer from a dispute, she manipulates her two hosts, multiplies arbitrary and random requests and requests. Some of her behaviors also confine the absurd, as when she begins to play the role of a difficult and capricious baby.
Between maternity and ecology
This allegory of the difficulties of maternity, marked by ecological and societal considerations, remains engaging, despite a certain length of the plot, in particular thanks to a few points of humor (including a remark launched by MIA during a sex scene, which will shudder the feminist public).
Elizabeth Olsen turns out to be perfect and moving in the role of this woman who cannot be satisfied with the love of her husband and wants to become a mother at all costs, even if her companion works on a virtual child project, which he would be satisfied with. While Alicia Vikander, the evaluator, fires all wood as a civil servant that is hesitant for a long time to identify, a simple round-of-the-cigion enjoying his momentary power, or servant of the state pushing professional zeal to the end.
