There are less than two years before the introduction of new 850cc engines in MotoGP – and they are already in development.
However, motorcycle track tests with this configuration will only be authorized after the GP of Valencia – as determined by the Grand Prix Commission. This organ includes FIM, the association of manufacturers (MSMA), the association of teams (IRTA), and Dorna.
One of the various measures taken concerns future engines, as indicated in a press release sent to the media following the meeting held on the sidelines of the GP of Spain:
– An agreement was concluded between the manufacturers stipulating that they will not test the 2027 specification machines during the 2025 season. This means that the test of a 2027 specification motorcycle will not be authorized until November 17, 2025.
It should be noted that the development of current engines is also frozen, a measure which will remain in force until the end of 2026. The exception, in this regard, concerns manufacturers in level D dealership (currently Honda and Yamaha), which will be authorized to continue to develop.
