GThanks to the recent rains, the dams have filled considerably. In the province of Sefrou, the dam Allal El Fassi reached at the end of April a filling rate of 99.6 %, while the Hassan Addakhil dam in Errachidia climbed to 75.1 %. The Moulay Youssef dam, in the province of Al Haouz, saw its reserves grow to reach 68.9 %. Overall, water reserves in Morocco reached more than 6.7 billion m3 As of April 21, 2025, according to the Ministry of Equipment and Water.
Water in the desert
This precipitation has rekindled formerly arid landscapes, especially in desert areas where plant species have resurfaced. “After seven years of water stress, the rains of March and April really transformed the soil, making it very humid and allowing a filling of basins and dams with an average rate of 40%”explains to Such Mostafa Benramel, climatologist and president of the Association of Ecological Headlights for Development and Climate.
