The four opposition parties are planning to deposit a motion of censorship against the government led by Aziz Akhannouch since October 2021. “This political and democratic exercise will revive the national debate, currently at half mast, and will put the government in the face of its responsibilities,” said the general secretariat of the PJD in a statement published this Sunday. To justify this initiative, the party notably stressed “the inability of the executive to respect the commitments made in the government program”.
However, this is unlikely to destabilize the Akhannouch cabinet. Indeed, the popular movement, the USFP, the PPS and the PJD only have 100 deputies in the House of Representatives (out of a total of 395 seats), faced with the absolute majority owned by the three parties of the government coalition: RNI (102 seats), PAM (87) and Istiqlal (81). This solid parliamentary majority is reinforced by the group formed by the Constitutional Union and the Democratic and Social Movement, ensuring the government protection against any motion of censure.
It should be noted that the opposition parties have not even constituted parliamentary inquiry commissions concerning Russian diesel and government aid with importers of sheep and cows, in accordance with article 67 of the Constitution, which requires 131 deputies. “The commissions of inquiry can be created on the initiative of the king or at the request of the third party members of the House of Representatives, or a third of the members of the House of Councilors,” said the text.
