The Senate adopted a bill on Monday, providing for the abolition of bank charges when the death of a minor child or a simple succession. The commissions billed during a complex succession will be capped.
This is a long -standing measure by families of deceased relatives: the Senate adopted a bill on Monday aimed at supervising and lowering bank charges. Even if they vary a lot from one bank to another, these commissions paid to close the accounts from one deceased can be exorbitant: they amounted to 291 euros on average in 2023, 25 % more than 2021 and 50 % more than in 2012, notes a parliamentary report. An amount three times higher than in Belgium or Italy. In May 2021, a bereaved couple was even invoked 138 euros to close the Livret A of their deceased 8 -year -old child. The case caused a scandal and is at the origin of the bill of the socialist deputy Christine Pirès-Beaune.
