At the start of the evening Wednesday, around 7 p.m., a 70 -year -old man, of Jewish confession was attacked in Anduze, a village near Alès. The victim was attacked as she gave food to cats in her neighborhood. Several witnesses attended the scene with great violence.

They report that the suspect, aged 45, would have claimed an aggressive euro, but that the elderly man would not have wanted to give him a piece. Taking advantage of what he had his back turned, the attacker would have borne a punch, before driving the man who fell on the ground and who could not defend himself. Under the dumbfounded eye of witnesses, the victim received several kicks.

Witnesses would have heard insults of a racist repeated in a loop.

Currently in police custody

The Public Prosecutor of Alès, Abdelkrim Grini, in charge of this file, confirms the anti -Semitic aggression: “The man wore a kippah at the time of the facts. The suspect uttered anti -Semitic insults, and this, on several occasions. The gendarmes quickly identified the suspect who left the scene after the assault. I confirm that he was arrested this morning, at his home. He was alcoholic. He is currently in police custody.”

The victim was hospitalized. The investigations continue under the authority of the Alès prosecution.
