Tour d’Italie 2025: an unprecedented departure in Albania
If you do not know what to expect during the Giro 2025, do not move, we give you all the details on the most beautiful stages of the Tour.
With its 3,413 km, 21 stages, and an unprecedented departure from Albania on May 9, the Tour of Italy 2025 of cycling announces a great spectacle! While we have to expect a compatriot of Pogacar to take over, according to our Giro 2025 prognosis, we should live for several highlights during the competition.
Between sea, mountain and historical heritage, this edition of the Giro d’Italie rushes on May 9 from Albania to end on June 1 in Rome, and promises an interesting course.
From the first three days in Albania, the runners will be put to the test. Stage 3 around Vlorë offers the first big difficulty with the ascent of the Llogara pass (10.7 km at 7.3%). The first time trial will not be long in coming because it intervenes from the 2nd stage, around Tirana (13.7 km) on May 10.
Giro course in Italy: first appointments for climbers
In Italy, serious things will start with the 7th stage to Tagliacozzo. The peloton will thus know its first arrival at the top, marked by slopes at 14%. Two days later, step 9 between Gubbio and Siena will borrow almost 30 km from the classic Italian race “Strade Bianche”, and could well trap certain runners of the peloton.
During stage 10, the second time trial, between Lucca and Pisa (28.6 km), will revive the race before a succession of mountain stages. The last week will be very demanding and should be decisive for the race between the favorites, with the Monte Grappa (15th stage), the terrible final of San Valentino (16th stage) and the formidable Mortirolo (17th stage).
The highest point only arrives at the 20th stage, with the mythical ascent of the Finestre pass (18.5 km at 9.2%), a partially on the ground, 2,200 meters above sea level. This day should end the battle for the pink jersey!
Finally, the peloton will close this Tour of Italy 2025 in Rome, the opportunity to (discover) the Italian heritage. We should expect a last sprint in front of the most beautiful monuments of the eternal city. This year, for the last Giro of Romain Bardet, the intensity will therefore rise crescendo, and the suspense should be present until the end. In short, the journey of this Tour of Italy is worth the detour!
