Birth of a passion, almost by chance
Rémi Bonnet was not born with skis on the feet. As a child, he was reluctant to walk in the mountains. It must be said that in Charmey, in the canton of Friborg, we live at the peaceful rhythm of nature. The young Rémi, he preferred to type in a ball with his friends rather than climbing the heights. It is almost by chance, at 17, that a hiking ski release will upset everything. “I had this feeling of freedom, escape, not to have limits”, he confides.
This click will propel him in a few years among the best in the world in ski-alineism. A dazzling progression, like its trail debut a few years later: in 2015, Solomon immediately identified its potential. Two disciplines, two successes … and twice as much pressure.
Be (the new) Killian Jornet, or not to be
The comparison with Kilian Jornet – his lifelong idol – arrived quickly. Too fast. Barely time to put on a bib than already, some media nicknamed it “The Killian Switzerland”. A flattering label? Not for Rémi. “I lived it very badly. I had no more pleasure in running, even to train. I was doing everything for others, more for me. »»
This period of doubt could have won him. But by returning to the essentials – the taste for effort, nature, its roots – Rémi has found the momentum. Even better: he learned to get his foot. “Today, I can cut after a big performance. Before, I was unable to stop. »»
