The Israeli authorities evacuated several cities in the center of the country on Wednesday due to the forest fires caused by the heat wave and the strong winds, while Tel Aviv requested international assistance to contain the flames which are spread quickly.
A press release from the rescue and fire fighting service indicates that the communities of Neveh Shalom, Beko’a, Ta’oz, Nachshon, and Mesilat Tzion were evacuated.
Evacuations that have been triggered by violent fires that broke out in several areas, while 111 firefighters and 11 planes were mobilized to try to master the lights.
Israeli public broadcaster Kan also reported a fire in the eshtaol forest region, between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, adding that the authorities have given instructions for the possible evacuation of other communities due to fires.
The emergency and fire -fighting service brought the level of alert to its maximum due to the fires, while the authorities asked Greece, Croatia, Italy and the Greek Cypriot Administration to help him fight fires that rage between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, Kan said. The authorities also closed as a precaution the main highway connecting the two cities.
The Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth said 12 people had been injured in fires.
