The murder of Charles NGO’ONDO Were, member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) by Raila Odonga, a historic Kenyan opponent who has trained an alliance with President William Ruto in recent months, took place on Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. GMT).
The nature of this crime seems to be both targeted and premeditatedsaid the spokesman for the national police, Muchiri Nyaga, in a statement published on X.
According to elements collected by the police using eyewitnesses, a motorcycle, transporting a driver and a passenger, stopped next to the car with the deputy on board, on the main road of Ngong, which crosses the capital.
The motorcycle passenger then approached the vehicle and shot it, before jumping on the motorcycle and fleeing.
The deputy was taken to the hospital, where his death was found. According to the police, neither the driver of the vehicle, nor another passenger on board, were injured.
Police forces are on the scene, reconstructing the circumstances surrounding death of the deputy, specifies the press release.
At this point, it is too early to provide other detailssaid Mr. Nyaga.
