The French president, Emmanuel Macron, returned this Monday to the diplomatic meeting on Saturday in the Basilica Saint-Pierre at the Vatican, on the sidelines of the funeral of Pope Francis, with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and his American counterpart Donald Trump, announcing “increase the pressure” on Russia in “the eight to ten days”.
“In the next eight to ten days, we will increase pressure” on Moscow, said Macron in an interview with Paris-Match magazine, without providing more details.
He believes that he “convinced the Americans of the possibility of climbing threats, and potentially sanctions” against Moscow.
Emmanuel Macron indicates, “hope” a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. He says, however, “remain cautious” on the ceasefire because “part of the equation depends on Moscow”.
“We have constantly sought to create a dynamic so that President Zelensky accepts the proposal of an unconditional ceasefire. What he did in Djeddah. We also worked for the United States to obtain Russia a cease-fire. It is all up to all to build the conditions of a robust and lasting peace,” he explained.
“We must be united and dissuasive,” said the French president.
At the end of the discussion between the four leaders on Saturday at the Vatican, on the sidelines of the Pope’s funeral, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky had a bilateral interview, whose images were massively relayed on social networks.
