The American Delordash delivery giant has agreed with its British counterpart Deliveroo to acquire the latter for 2.9 billion pounds Sterling (3.4 billion euros), the two companies announced on Tuesday, May 6 in a joint statement.
This rapprochement between the two entities, to “complementary geographic activities”, should make it possible to “strengthen the position” of Doordash “as a global platform”, it is underlined in the press release.
Based in San Francisco and founded in 2013, the American company today claims a presence in more than 30 countries and has generated a turnover of $ 10.7 billion in 2024.
Deliveroo, also founded in 2013, is active in nine countries: Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, Kuwait, Qatar, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. After years of losses due to massive investments, the group presented in March, for the first time, an annual profit after tax of 2.9 million pounds, on a turnover of 2.1 billion.
The meeting “of the two companies will allow the extended group to operate in countries whose combined population exceeds one billion inhabitants”, explain the two entities. It remains to be seen whether this global expansion will one day extend to Luxembourg, where Doordash could come and compete with Wedely, Wolt and more recently, .
