On April 29, the “Belgian Business for Europe-BBE” working group was received at the permanent representation of Belgium with the European Union for an exchange of views with the new tandem of Belgian ambassadors to the EU, namely the permanent representative Peter Moors (Coreper-2) and the permanent representative Bert Versmessen (Coreper-1). This exchange notably focused on the current EU priorities with regard to the current geopolitical and economic context.
This meeting with the two ambassadors brought together numerous representatives of sectoral and business federations.
European agenda at the discussion center
During this meeting, the Ambassadors Peter Moors and Bert Versessen addressed many subjects concerning European news. Among the themes discussed were the Clean Industrial Deal, the climatic objectives, the “Omnibus-1” simplification package but also the questions related to the competitiveness of the EU and its businesses and the defense in the context of the new geopolitical reality. In this context, trade tensions with the USA and the reaction of the EU were commented. The exchanges were particularly rich and varied, including concerning the priorities defended by Belgium on the European scene. This meeting enabled the FEB and its members to highlight a series of strategic priorities and concrete actions, necessary to strengthen the competitiveness and attractiveness of the European Union.
Business concerns
After a presentation of the European priorities and the European agenda by the ambassadors, the representatives of companies and federations were able to ask their questions to the Moors and Versessen ambassadors. The discussions then continued in the presence of experts, making it possible to deepen these subjects and to examine the implications, for Belgian and European companies, of the many challenges that Europe is confronted.
