A person who worked in the Accounting of the ASBL Train World was sentenced in 2023 for acts of fraud committed between 2016 and 2021, it was revealed on Friday by the VRT. Train World and the SNCB, in charge of the museum, filed a complaint and the employee was sentenced to the payment of a compensation of 1.06 million euros, the rail company confirmed by press release.
According to information revealed by the VRT, the employee had recorded invoices for cleaning or communication services, allegedly provided to Train World. However, the services ordered were never provided to the Schaerbeek Museum, and the employee’s account number was registered on the invoices, so that money resulted in her own account. The SNCB thus suffered a prejudice of 1.06 million euros between 2016 and March 2021.
The fraud was only retired from the worker, after the closure of the 2020 accounting financial year. The person concerned spoke of the VRT a difficult period in his private life, as well as an addiction to the game that led to this fraud. “”So I did not enrich myself, quite the contrary“She testified.”I’m ashamed.“
After a complaint filed by Train World and the SNCB in April 2021, the former employee was sentenced in March 2023 to compensation of 1.06 million euros, the railway company confirmed on Friday. “”A part (of the amount) has already been received to date“She said.
The SNCB added that it has since taken a series of measures, such as an internal audit which led to strengthening the accounting system and internal control mechanisms. The company has also carried out complete integration of almost all of its subsidiaries, including the ASBL Train World.
