Current coach of the Bayern Munich basketball team, Gordon Herbert was appointed by the Canadian National Federation, as coach of the Canada National Team from the summer of 2026.
The current Bayern Munich coach and world champion with Germany, the Canadian Gordon Herbert, was appointed coach of the Canada’s male team from the summer of 2026, the National Federation announced on Thursday.
«Herbert’s mission will be to lead this golden generation of Canada to a second consecutive participation in the Olympic Games, with the objective of the podium at the Los Angeles Games“Said in a Canada Basketball press release. The national selection, bronze medalist at the world championships in 2023, rose to the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament in Paris, before losing against France (82-73).

As a coach, Gordon Herbert, 66, led Germany two years ago as World Champion in the Philippines and more recently until half of the Olympic Games (4th place). Passed by many clubs, including Paris Basket Racing and Pau-Orthez, he won the French Cup with the Bearnais momentum in 2007. The native of Penticton (British Columbia) is currently at the head of Bayern Munich, leader of the German championship and eliminated at the Euroligue Dams stadium this season.
Already passed by Canada as an assistant coach, between 2001 and 2002 and then between 2018 and 2021, Herbert also played under the colors of his country at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984.
