Between social commitment and artistic freedom, the contemporary photography festival questions our time, without ever giving in to the ease of the gaze.
The 25th edition of the endographies changes its place, but no mind. Now welcomed at the city scales – while the popular pavilion has a facelift – the exhibition keeps its freedom of tone intact. The sharp look of selected European photographers continues to explore the realities of the contemporary world, between commitment and poetry.
Political persecution, virilism, discrimination, rise in authoritarianisms or even weight of paternity: the subjects covered are part of a clear desire to question society. And if the place changes, the subject remains faithful to the very essence of the endographies: questioning, disturbing, making people think.
Thinking long time in a world of instantaneity
This Friday, May 9, Christian MacCotta, artistic director of the festival, presented this new edition in the presence of some artists. He underlined a trait common to the work exposed: “Think the long time, the one who makes the history of women and men.” A precious posture in an era dominated by the snapshot and the speed, often confused and troubled.
Visitors are invited to take the time of wandering, essential to grasp the richness and complexity of certain projects, in particular those focused on the recovery and reinterpretation of images. “I hope the photographers will be satisfied with the staging of their work”says Christian Maccotta. A space for thought to restore all the freedom of gaze which makes the singularity of the festival.
