The majority of the works presented are reproductions, but around twenty originals enrich the scenography. These rare pieces come from the personal collection of Victor Dearteau, close friend of the artist, who has accumulated over the years drawings, plates and illustrations, often offered by Hausman himself. He was also a pillar in setting up this exhibition.
The adventures of “Saki & Zunie”, by René Hausman, gathered in a single work
What distinguishes René Hausman particularly is his way of working the color: “He was an illustrator but he was above all a colorist, he had a real way to color his drawings”says Shane Caroli, graphic designer at the Verviers cultural center and member of the organization. The exhibition was therefore designed to vibrate the richness of its palette, highlight this unique sensitivity, this tender and mischievous look on nature and popular traditions, in an immersive and lively atmosphere, like its personality.
The event intends to attract collectors, amateurs, friends and connoisseurs, some even from France. But the exhibition is resolutely an audience. School visits are also scheduled, in the hope of reaching the youngest and to rediscover the work of a large Verviétois designer. “It is essential to recall that Verviers has counted in its ranks of the leading artistic figures. René Hausman is part of our collective memory, his drawings are still visible in many public places in the region. It embodies a form of imaginary heritage to preserve”completes the organizer.
The exhibition is not satisfied with a thematic selection, it embraces all of her work, offering a global look at a rich and singular career. A great opportunity to (re) discover an artist who knew better than anyone to give life to the Ardennes terroir.
