Seizures of “erectile honey”, a product banned in France, have increased significantly over the last five years, with an absolute record in 2024, warns French Customs in a press release. This product, imported and sold illegally, comes in the form of honey sticks mixed with medications used to combat erectile dysfunction and subject to regulation.
-In 2019, only 18 cases of illegal import were noted, 131 in 2023, or seven times more. In 2024, seizures will explode again with very large quantities discovered. In November, 13 tonnes of “erectile honey”, presented as natural honey, were seized at the port of Marseille on a ship coming from Malaysia. Other significant seizures were also made in the East and in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
These products arrive mainly by sea, from Malaysia, Turkey, Tunisia and Thailand. They are most often sold in night shops, individually for a few euros, with promises “festive, for fitness or health”, specifies Customs. Several brands have been identified such as Black Horse, Etu Max and Bio Max.
Customs insists on “potential danger” of these products for consumers, in particular because the dosage of the active ingredients is never mentioned, as are the recommended doses or the undesirable effects that they can cause.
