“The title of the New Year’s concert can make you imagine a repertoire of Viennese waltzes. This is not the case, immediately warns Dimitri Pereira, cellist of the Armor Camerata orchestra. If we chose to give this generic name to our January 4 event, it is because this classical Music event will return at the beginning of the year, on a different theme,” explains the musician.
A stroll among English composers
For this first edition, the subtitle speaks for itself: “By the English paths”. Because on the program, we will find a “Serenade for Strings” by Edward Elgar, “Capriol Suite” by Peter Warlock, “St Paul’s Suite” by Gustav Holst or “Heather Hill” by composer Constance Warren.
Which appears to be a logical continuation of the Armor Camerara creation concert, in February 2024. The latter had offered to hear, for the first time, the “Adagio of the Singing Tree”, composed by its conductor orchestra Victor Josse, in homage to the Sycamore Gap Tree in the north-east of England, recently felled by a malicious act. “For the record, the piece has since been broadcast within the Northumberland tree promotion center,” advises Dimitri Pereira.
Guest oboist Charlotte Bouchet
This piece will be performed again during the concert on January 4. But this time by 21 instrumentalists, and no longer sixteen. “Our string orchestra has integrated five new Breton teachers,” announces Armor Camerata. Who will also welcome the Plérinaise Charlotte Bouchet as soloist in the “Oboe Concerto” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. A professor at the Saint-Brieuc Conservatory, the oboist comes from the Geneva High School of Music and has notably performed with the Nice baroque ensemble.
