Singer Renaud completed a two-year long tour this Saturday evening in Deauville. He wants to get back on stage quickly.
Two years of touring, 131 dates and only two cancellations “because of bronchitis”, at the beginning of December in Alençon and Besançon. At 72 years old, the survivor Renaud completed his tour “In my ropes”, this Saturday in Deauville in front of 450 spectators. A tour which visited Perpignan in the summer of 2023.
In an interview with Le Parisien, the singer with a hoarse voice and messy diction said he “never doubted” his ability to keep up the rhythm. “From the first rehearsals, I knew that musically, it was going to work with these magnificent strings.”
No more alcohol for three and a half years
Even physically, Renaud surprised. “I quit alcohol three and a half years ago and cigarettes a year and nine months ago. I smoke one cigarette a month. The next one is January 10,” he admitted . With Le Parisien, he also returned to the rumors of a stroke which would have affected the singer. “It seems, yes. About ten years ago. I don’t remember,” he simply replied.
If Renaud is no longer the rebellious young man of his beginnings in the 70s, his audience still follows him. Less numerous, certainly, but still faithful. “We age, we change, we have to understand,” he said to Le Parisien. “As for me, the scene keeps me alive and inactivity kills me. I thank my fans who are always there.”
And Renaud for giving a host of meetings to his fans. Starting with “a creation” at the Francofolies in La Rochelle on July 10 for his 50th career, “a show of covers of my songs” by Noé Preszow, a collaboration with Hoshi and an album for 2026. “I'm there works, but I'm having a little trouble, it's difficult to get out, lack of inspiration”, he admitted.
An album which would lead to a new tour for Renaud who still sees himself on stage at 80 years old. “Like McCartney. It's better! I know the audience will be there.”
