Minimalism
Andrew Mielzynski was named Landscape Photographer of the Year 2024 thanks to a set of four photos combining minimalism and natural textures. His photos explore varied locations, such as the snowy landscapes of Ontario and the red deserts of the Atacama. This is not a first for him: a finalist last year, he took the last step this year, pocketing a prize of $5,000 in the process.
Besides that, Ryohei Irie won the title of Landscape Photo of the Year with his magical image Traces of Light
immortalizing fireflies illuminating a Japanese forest. A great reward for this photographer who specializes in these landscapes imbued with mystery. And it’s true that this photo is incredible.
These superb shots in all categories
Five other photographers were recognized in specific categories. Shirley Wung, for example, won the Forest prize with a photo of fireflies (obviously the theme of the year) in Taiwan. In the Snow and Ice category, Icelandic Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove captivated the jury with an aerial view of the icy waters of Scoresbysund in Greenland.
Benjamin Barakat (Switzerland) won in the Aerial category with The Final Dune
a shot highlighting the curves of the dunes of Namibia at sunset. Federico Delucchi seduced with an impressive astral composition, which features an aurora borealis and the Milky Way in the Sky category.
A competition for enthusiasts
This competition once again highlighted the patience and perseverance of photographers. With 101 photos selected to feature in an annual book, each shot tells a story, often captured after hours of waiting for the right conditions. Then there too there is material to make beautiful wallpapers.
