A special order and a chance encounter

The sculptor Jacques Lipchitz met Le Corbusier by chance, during an art sale in 1921 and asked him, with Oscar Miestchaninoff, to build a house–studio in their image. They then ordered a unique property from the architects Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, which they described as a set “ composed of three buildings to accommodate their living, working and exhibition space “. The house of Lipchitz, which was to be connected by a footbridge to that of Miestchaninoff, was also to be connected to that of the artisan engraver Victor Canale, who ultimately did not join this project. The workshops are then established on the ground floor to benefit from a generous volume and facilitate the handling of the sculptures. Discovery of the estate which is spread over several houses, and its particular interiors.
