The meeting of the eras
If the plan reads like a hotel suite in winter, for Le Cann it is about integrating a real functional kitchen, fully equipped to bring in a chef and organize a dinner on the terrace on summer days. “The terrace was envisaged from the start as a continuation of the apartment, which is what guided us towards the floor material: Hainaut stone, which recalls Parisian pavement in this square format, but with a twist there again…” Worked raw, with blunt edges for a slightly powdery, warmer finish, it enlarges the space. On the walls and ceilings, in the same spirit, the set of moldings which punctuate the space are available in a monochrome of paints and finishes in a beige tending towards verdigris when, as for the moldings and cornices , it is the same tone but with a very smooth, satin paint, which creates a contrast with one and the same shade. On the ceiling, an almost imperceptible vault like an overturned boat hull creates a volume whose effect is reinforced with lighting and unifies the whole. Because it is the tour de force of the main space to include several functions: entrance, bedroom, living room, office area, all in a plan that the owner wanted open but whose uses are signified by the rhythm of the moldings and united by the delicately curved vault.
Associations, mixes and contrasts
Touches of mirrors bring reflections like so many punctuations, from the kitchen to the bathroom and to the window frames which erase the interior-exterior boundary. There is also this stainless steel that the duo particularly likes on air conditioning grilles with a pattern of square perforations that we find from place to place, from radiator grilles to ventilation vents. “A square design reminiscent of the exterior trellis, in a Milanese spirit, present but not too much to avoid the gimmick side”. In the kitchen, a pure, ultra-lacquered white highlights the powdery beige of the rest of the apartment. “What is interesting, in an interior that is not white, is to introduce it in contrast to give a little vibration. » A linen roman blind adds a little Parisian touch. And this is where all the charm of this apartment lies, which skillfully plays on the associations between Paris and Milan, curves and squares, revisited classics and twisted Art Deco, beige and blue, stone, velvet. and straw marquetry… A charm full of controlled contrasts.
