Seven years after the death of his father, David Hallyday decided to pay tribute to him in music. In his new album, we find classics from the singer and covers of Johnny Hallyday’s greatest hits.

Invited this June 22 on the set of 50′ Inside, the singer spoke about this project which was particularly close to his heart. But Laura Smet’s brother also spoke about his strained relationship with his sisters, Jade and Joy.

David Hallyday: a tribute album to his father

David Hallyday unveiled his new album this Friday, June 21 “Requiem for a fool”. “For me, this project is very important, because it partly touches on my father’s catalog, a catalog that is more than fifty years old.”, he told Télé 7 jours. In this album, we find among the 19 titles, songs written for Johnny, such as Mirador Or Blood for blood. The singer also decided to resume Laurasong written by Jean-Jacques Goldman to celebrate the birth of Laura Smet.

“Laura was one of the songs that I really wanted to do, because my sister is very attached to this song, she is very attached to it”, David confided to our colleagues. “I wanted to achieve this title for her and make her proud of it.” A beautiful gesture from the rocker’s eldest son, who touched the daughter of Nathalie Baye and Johnny Hallyday. Laura Smet has in fact thanked his half-brother on social networks.

David Hallyday reaches out to his sisters Jade and Joy

During her exclusive interview for 50′ Inside on TF1, Isabelle Ithurburu questioned David Hallyday about his current relationships with Jade and Joy. Indeed, a conflict over Johnny’s inheritance persists within the family and the relationship between the brothers and sisters is tense. However, the 57-year-old singer spoke of hope. The TF1 host asked her guest if he hoped his little sisters would listen to the album, David Hallyday responded frankly: “Yes, if they want to, we can’t force people. If it’s something that interests them, of course.

The singer then added: “I think that’they need to grow up a little bit and that they have a little perspective, some life experience. If they want, I will be thereand then, if they don’t want to, I’ll still be there the day they want to!” Johnny Hallyday’s eldest son seems to have desire to reconnect with the daughters of Laetitia Hallyday. But the singer is ready to wait as long as it takes.

Johnny’s death created conflict in the Hallyday family

Since the death of Johnny Hallyday in 2017 and the question of his inheritance, the family has broken up. A gap has opened up between, on one side, Laetitia, Jade and Joy, and on the other David and Laura. At the end of 2023, the rocker’s adopted daughters spoke to Paris Match. Jade and Joy said about their brother: “In Saint-Barth’, David and Laura gave us great promises, assuring us that they would always be there, that we could count on them, that we would see each other often. And then as soon as they left, we never heard from them directly again. I experienced it as abandonment.”

In April 2024, David Hallyday reacted to these comments in the columns of Le Parisien. The singer then assured: I find it a shame to involve children so young in things like this, whether in any family. I’m talking about my little sisters and that’s up to me”. Will relationships within siblings improve over time? That’s all we can hope for from them.
