A new sculpture known as Grain of Hope and Heritage is now found in front of the town hall of the municipality of Saint-Jacques.
This work of Art by artist Paige Krämer Rochefort was created as part of an artistic residency held at the Atelier Mains de Fer in Saint-Jacques.
It is part of the Chouette! Art trail in rural areas of the MRC of Montcalm.
Grain of Hope and Heritage is a symbolic composition that celebrates the history and future of the community in addition to illustrating the past as well as the aspirations of the Lanaudière municipality, through several symbols intertwined in the artwork.
For example, at the top of the sculpture we can find a germinating seed topped with a yellow star inspired by the Acadian flag, which represents growth and hope.
This seed made of raw stainless steel highlights the resilience of the community, while the blue triangular elements and the handle evoke traditional agricultural tools, a reminder of the rural roots and agricultural heritage of the region.
The white veil that extends from a red root pays homage to the first Acadians in addition to embodying their journey and their heritage.
This theme of migration is also represented by the figure of a bird in flight also made of stainless steel, a symbol of courage, integration and diversity.
The base of this artistic work features multi-colored grass, an element illustrating the richness of community diversity where each blade embodies different origins.
As a whole, this achievement symbolizes the identity, pride and progressive spirit of Saint-Jacques, but while celebrating its deep roots and its openness to the future.
