Keith Urban thanks Nicole Kidman for her help in fighting his addictions

Their couple has gone through many trials. After 18 years of marriage and almost 20 years as a couple, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman are stronger and more in love than ever. And yet, the parents of Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret did not always see life in rosy colors. In question ? The 56-year-old guitarist’s multiple addictions, notably to drugs and alcohol, when they met in 2005.

“We got married in June 2006 and barely four months after our wedding, my addictions (…) blew our marriage into a million pieces,” he confided during the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award gala on the 27th. last April and a video extract of which was published on June 18. The 56-year-old actress then received a lifetime achievement award.

“Four months into a marriage, I went to rehab for three months. I had no idea what was going to happen to us (…) Nicole pushed away all the negative voices, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”

“Our girls are very lucky to learn from you”

For the occasion, the couple was accompanied by their two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, aged 15 and 13. While continuing to pay tribute to his wife, the musician thanked her for the education she provides to their two daughters. “I have never met anyone who has such a passion for life. She also knows the importance of expressing her feelings (…) I was not raised like that at all, so our daughters are very lucky to learn from you,” he continued.

Greatly accustomed to declarations of love to his wife, the guitarist once again was no exception to the rule. “I know that tonight is only about your work so far… but next year, it will be 20 years that I have been madly in love with you,” concluded Keith Urban, under the misty and conquered eyes of his Nicole Kidman.
