ATHLETICS: Amiens UC arrives in force in Angers for the French Championships

From June 28 to 30, the French athletics championships take place in Angers. A last big meeting before the Paris 2024 Games which also constitutes the last chance to cling to the Olympic dream. Amiens UC Athletics is sending nearly 20 athletes there.

Two weeks after the national meeting of Amiens Métropole organized by Amiens UC Athletics, several athletes from the club will go to Angers to participate in the French championships. A few days before the end of the Olympic qualification period in athletics closes, This competition is the last chance to secure a place in the Games.

Nearly twenty AUC members will go to Angers at the end of the week. Among them, we obviously find Thomas Gogois, recent triple jump bronze medalist at the European Championships, who will try to win his first French championship title among seniors. He will begin the competition on Saturday at 19h30 and is the favorite given his latest performances. But before him Raphaël Moudoulou will be the first from Amiens to enter the track. The high jumper will enter his competition on Friday at 5:45 p.m. Clément Touati will be competing in the 1500m. The series will take place on Friday at 7:25 p.m. while the final will be played the next day at 7:50 p.m..

The Saturday, ten other Samarians will be on deck to try to give the best possible performance. In addition to Thomas Gogois, we will also find Aude Keyboard who was also present during the European Championships. She will try to win her place for the Olympics at 20h30. For this, the Auvergne will have to pass under the 9’23″00, in other words she will have to beat her personal best by almost 9 seconds. A little earlier today, Alizée Minard will enter the javelin competition at 3pm. She is the favorite with the best French performance of the season. In Tucson in the United States, the 2023 French vice-champion managed to make a throw of 58.68 m, thus achieving a new personal best. Record that she almost beat three weeks later in Halle in Germany where she had a throw of 58.49 m. Saturday in Angers, she will be accompanied by Jona Aigouy. The young Samarian, Vanessa Lokuli will also be there. The French indoor U18 and U20 champion will compete in the 100m, the heats of which will take place from 7:05 p.m. and the final at 8:25 p.m.. But she will also be taking part in the long jump competition with Maelly Dalmat which started at 17h10 the same day.

Also participating in a jumping competition, Maéva Dorsile and Aminata Ndiaye will be in the triple which will take place at 7:30 p.m. Antoine Duponchel, who is returning to competition this year after several physical problems, will continue to find his feet in competition. The test will take place at 6 p.m. Finally, the vice-champion of the Mediterranean Games, Jean-Baptiste Brussels, will be aligned with the hammer throw. With the third best French performance of the year, he has one last chance to qualify for the Games by the minimums. For this, he will have toimprove your personal best (75.20 m) by three meters (78.20 m for the minimum) but also his best performance of the season (74.40 m) by almost four meters. It will be a delicate task for the Amiens resident. who will be alongside Wiltird Huet during the competition scheduled for 7:20 p.m.

On the high jump, Fatoumata Balley can still believe in the Games, even if reaching them will be very difficult. The minimums (1.97 m) are still far from his personal best (1.86 m). The Guinean, who won the competition at the meeting in Amiens two weeks ago, finished on the third step of the podium at the African Championships this weekend with a jump of 1.84 m. The competition will take place on Sunday June 30 around 1:15 p.m. For her part, Esther Wejme will be in the women’s 200m and will enter the running during qualifying at 1:20 p.m. and the final will take place at 3:10 p.m. Another athlete entered in a distance, Paul-Auguste Aké will be in the 400 m.
