Jordan Bardella obviously did not appreciate Kylian Mbappé’s statements. The latter, at a press conference just before the French team’s first match against Austria at Euro 2024, spoke about the upcoming legislative elections.
Following the victory of the National Rally in the European elections, Emmanuel Macron called on the French to return to the polls to elect their new deputies on June 30 and July 7. At a press conference, the now ex-PSG player gave his opinion and asked the French to vote.
Kylian Mbappé says he is “against extremes”
“I am against extremes, against ideas that divide. I want to be proud to wear this jersey, and not to represent a country that does not correspond to my values”, he declared at first. Kylian Mbappé then estimated that the country was in a “crucial moment” of its history.
In fact, he called “all young people to go and vote [et à] realize the importance of the situation. I hope we will still be proud to wear this jersey on the 7th [juillet] »he concluded about the next legislative elections in France.
Jordan Bardella responds to him
Statements to which the president of the National Rally, expected to become Prime Minister in the event of his party’s victory on June 30 and July 7, reacted. Indeed, Jordan Bardella tackled Kylian Mbappé in an interview with Le Parisien this Monday, June 17, 2024.
“ I have a lot of respect for Kylian Mbappé”he wanted to assure at first before regretting: “But I am embarrassed to see multimillionaires, who have no difficulty making ends meet, giving moral lessons to French people who are in […] great suffering”.
The president of the National Rally then focused on the pride of wearing the French team jersey. “I didn’t know that the French team jersey was the government jersey”, he said ironically. For his part, Jean-Luc Mélenchon and the members of the La France Insoumise party did not react to the statements of the captain of the Blues.
