Around twenty works by Matanese painter Philippe Giroux were presented to the public Thursday during the opening of his visual art exhibition at the Matamajaw Fishing Heritage Site in Causapscal.

Visitors were able to admire for the first time paintings depicting fishing scenes and the surrounding nature, such as waterfalls, falls and rivers.

“I have been fishing for years, often in streams. I always have my camera with me, looking for inspiration. I take photos and when I capture things that I like, I will rework the images on the computer for framing and composition before making paintings,” explains Philippe Giroux in an interview with Mon Matane.

The talented artist began painting in the 1980s. He has devoted himself entirely to his art for nearly 12 years.

“It was my retirement plan to make paintings, trying to have a little extra income with that, but ultimately it grew very well. I have received international recognition, particularly in the United States and Europe. People discovered me at the same time as I discovered this world myself. It’s an exchange that does me a lot of good. »

Originally from Beloeil, Philippe Giroux has lived in Matane for nearly 50 years. He paints realistic, even hyperrealistic canvases with acrylics with strong contrasts.

Its temporary exhibition at the Matamajaw Fishing Heritage Site will continue until September 2.
