If you have had the opportunity to pass in front of the future mural in the Saint-Nicolas district, at the corner of rue de la Barillerie and rue des Falotiers in the heart of Le Mans, you may have been arrested. Does the promised comic book drawing finally give way to golden-colored graffiti?
“Funnier, faster and more engaging”
This is only a marker
reassures Simon, assistant to street artist Wen2 in charge of creating the illustration. A process which responds to the name of doodle
in the jargon, which has now become commonplace for those who set out to create wall frescoes. For ten or fifteen years, street artists have left aside the more tedious grids.
In fact, the artists cover the entire surface with graffiti – which means anything and everything – and then come and take a photo. This photo with the graffiti will be superimposed on the final layer of the drawing.
As a result, the letters, numbers and other symbols from the graffiti become landmarks at the time of creation. Between the K and the Y seen here
points Simon, Wen2 knows that a certain piece of the fresco will be drawn here
.
According to the assistant, the advantages of the doodle are multiple: It takes much less time to operate like this, the artists have fun and the customers, challenged, stop to discuss and ask questions.
In summary? It’s funnier, faster and more engaging!
