Projecting LA 2024 marks the return of the larger-than-life photography event documenting the street life of Los Angeles.
Projecting LA 2024 is a public screening projected 80 feet wide and three stories above a large outdoor venue in the heart of Los Angeles’ historic Chinatown. The screening features the work of a range of photographers following a jury process as well as featured guests including actor, musician and photographer Jeff Bridges, Pulitzer Prize winner Ringo Chiu and Pulitzer Prize winner Christina House from the LATimes. Projecting LA 2024’s roster of photographers includes Pulitzer Prize winners, acclaimed photographers from the Los Angeles Times, Associated Press, Reuters, Los Angeles Daily News, war photographers, Emmy Award winners and many more photographers accomplished documentaries and street artists.
The broad scope of Projecting LA 2024’s diverse stories encapsulates the multi-layered fabric that binds Los Angeles, its history, and its communities. These projects include: the Sixth Street Bridge, Behind the Scenes of Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe’s Legacy, The Fentanyl Crisis, Midwife-Led Labor and Delivery Unit, Cruising on Van Nuys Boulevard in the 1970s, the Venice district in the 1980s, the Armenian diaspora in the early 2000s, and many others.
Photographers on display included: special guests Jeff Bridges, Susan Geston Bridges, Ringo Chiu, Larry Hirshowitz, Christina House, Estevan Oriol, Francine Orr and Allen J. Schaben; jury selections consisting of Karen Ballard, Jill Connelly, Laurie Freitag, Amy Gaskin, David Ingraham, Jamie Johnson, Sarah Reingewirtz, Richard Smith, David Swanson, Richard Vogel and Jason Williams; “5 Decades of Documentaries” by Richard McCloskey, Don Weinstein, Cristina Salvador Klenz, Robert Yager and Ara Oshagan; the Street LA Collective with the work of Wednesday Aja, Julia Dean, Marta Evry, Alon Goldsmith, Gail Just, Mike Lynch, Daniel Sackheim, Joshua Stern; and unique images of Melanie Chapman, Oscar Contrera, Ambrus Deak, Danny DeGennaro, Domenico Foschi, Florian Froschmayer, Ada Gorn, Ken Karagozian, Poul Lange, T. Chick McClure, Skip McCraw, Rene Melendrez, Juan Fernando Mora, Yulia Morris, Eric Renard, Lalo Sanchez, Alexander Seyum, Matt Stasi, Todd Stern, Timothy Suh, Ann Toler, John Travis, Glen Wilbert, Jason Williams, Carl Young, Kei Rowan-Young and Vonjako.
