Descriptive text here

It is an important meeting for lovers of fine arts which is announced in Quiberon from Wednesday May 1st. Indeed, the exhibition “A century of painting in the Quiberon peninsula (1880-1980)” will bring together for the first time on the peninsula 42 works by 28 painters who worked between Quiberon Bay and Côte Sauvage . Among the expected names, we include Ernest Guérin and Maxime Maufra, André Wilder, Oswald Poreau, without forgetting the sisters Elodie La Villette and Caroline Espinet.

, land of painting

If the idea of this exhibition comes from two Quiberon elected officials, Laurence Gonnot and the cultural assistant Sophie Lemoulinier, its assembly and presentation are the responsibility of the Quiberon gallery owner and art expert (already at work on several major painting exhibitions in Brittany) Hervé Duval.

“From the end of the 19th century, Brittany became a land of painting, an open-air workshop with the beginning of impressionism. The painters left the Parisian academies and went looking for new landscapes not too far away. Brittany is a blessing for them: they will find lights like no other and exoticism at lower costs, costumes, traditions, legends, megaliths etc. If Pont-Aven, Concarneau or Belle-Ile are essential, we must not forget the peninsula.”

Works never shown

The 42 paintings on display (oils, watercolors, gouaches) come from 13 private lenders who all have a residence on the peninsula. These paintings therefore either remained in families or were purchased on site by knowledgeable amateurs. “The great opportunity for the public is that they will discover works that are never shown,” continues Hervé Duval. Representatives of the major Breton museums will also undoubtedly make the trip.”
