Guest on the set of the show Quotidien, David Hallyday talks about his relationship and the conversations he had with his father, Johnny Hallyday.

The 57-year-old singer is preparing a cover album, Requiem for a fool, who plans to revisit his father’s classics. It should be released next June.

“I reassured him”

On the set of Quotidien as well as with our colleagues at ParisianDavid Hallyday spoke about the conversations he could have with his father when they managed to find themselves alone: “We talked about life, about our feelings about things, sometimes he could talk to me about one thing and continue with another by telling me: ‘I did that, I regretted that…’ and I told him I replied: “Me too, but what are we going to do?“” he added to Yann Barthès, laughing. “So, there you have it, things in life”, he explains.

Johnny Hallyday’s son specifies in particular to Le Parisien that his father often spoke to him about what was going wrong for him: “At that time, I was a bit of a big brother. I soothed him. I told him: “It doesn’t matter.” I reassured him.”

“Very modest”

He also remembers the song Blood for blood recorded virtually with his father and which will be on his next album: “At the time, he didn’t want to record this song. He refused to talk about what happened when he was younger. And I reassured him by saying: “It’s just a father who says to his son: I was absent, I didn’t do things the way I wanted, but one day you will understand.”

Highlighting the side “very modest” by Johnny Hallyday on Quotidien, the singer explains that he had to work more on his personal life than professional: “For me, being successful in life means keeping in touch with my children, even when they are older, so that they always want to see me. And I missed it a lot with him. Music has soothed many things, confided the singer.
