The curious are trying to find out what they represent. Since this Friday, September 13, 2024, five monumental works were erected on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), between Rauba Capeù and the Quai des Etats-Unis, passing by the Cour Saleya.

They were installed as part of an exhibition that will remain until December 15, the municipality announced.

“Greek concept of love”

After Richard Orlinski’s gigantic animals, it is now the turn of the Italian artist Andrea Roggi to exhibit his works in the streets of downtown Nice. Since September 13, he has installed five huge bronze sculptures on the Promenade des Anglais. And they talk about love.

Entitled “Agape, a love that changes the world,” this open-air exhibition “is inspired by the Greek concept of love with imposing bronze sculptures representing nature and thus integrating perfectly into the environment of Nice. 4 works, including two previously unpublished works, “L’Amore, il Futuro del Mondo” and “Il Futuro siamo Noi”, will be presented along the Quai des Etats-Unis,” explains the Nice town hall in a press release.

A message of hope and unity

But who is Andrea Roggi, this world-renowned maestro? “His sculptures, which combine mastery and technique with artistic expression, embody a movement that defies the traditional statics of sculpture, bringing lightness and fluidity even to monumental compositions.”

Through his sculptures, the artist wants to convey a “profound message of hope, unity and human connection,” he wrote in an Instagram post. This is not the first time he has exhibited in the Côte d’Azur capital, with the works already being visible to all on the castle hill for a good part of the summer.

They will remain on the public highway, kindly made available by the City, until December 15, 2024.
