Through a very beautiful staging, signed by the filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, the biennial highlights contemporary design.

Special Envoy to Venice

After decades marked by rigorous design, with a renewed interest in the decorative, artistic crafts are enjoying a new craze. Manual techniques, skills that were once denigrated – because they were considered kitsch – such as gilding, straw marquetry, stucco and trompe-l’oeil are making a comeback. In Venice, the Biennale Homo Faber 2024, orchestrated by the non-profit organization Michelangelo Foundation, celebrates these artistic crafts in their most contemporary expression.

On the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, opposite the Doge’s Palace, at the entrance to the Grand Canal, no fewer than 800 exceptional objects, created by more than 400 artisans from 70 countries, illustrate creativity, techniques and materials specific to the art of the hand. Everyone can discover, until September 30, ceramics, as well as jewelry, furniture or tapestries, in a basilica built by Andrea Palladio, the passageways of a cloister or even greenhouses.
