Roy Dupuis shares the bill with actresses Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander in Rumors, the new film by Canadian directors Evan Johnson, Galen Johnson and Guy Maddin which will be presented out of competition next month at the Film Festival.

It was the distributor Entract Films who made this announcement following the unveiling of the Official Selection of 77e Cannes Film Festival, Thursday.

Co-produced by Canada and Germany, “Rumors follows the leaders gathered for the annual G7 summit as they become lost in the woods and face increasing dangers,” reads the synopsis provided by Entract Films.

In an interview with the magazine 7 days last October, Roy Dupuis revealed some details about his role in Rumors notably indicating that he was stepping into the shoes of the Prime Minister of Canada.

“It will be a great challenge,” he confided. I love the universe [de Guy Maddin]. In my eyes, that’s what I call a real filmmaker.”

Besides Cate Blanchett (Ocean’s 8, Tár) and Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider, Ex Machina), Rumors also stars the British Charles Dance and the Frenchman Denis Ménochet.

This is not the first time that Roy Dupuis has collaborated with Guy Maddin. The 60-year-old Quebec actor has already appeared in the film The Forbidden Room, that the Winnipeg-born filmmaker shot in Montreal about ten years ago and which also starred Karine Vanasse, Caroline Dhavernas and Céline Bonnier.

The release date of Rumors has not yet been announced.
