QS MP Vincent Marissal is considering launching a municipal party in Montreal

MP Vincent Marissal, from Québec solidaire, is considering launching a new municipal party in Montreal. He is still considering the possibility of running for mayor next fall, but he does not intend to do so under the banner of Projet Montréal.

“If by chance I were to enter the race for mayor, it would not be with this vehicle,” he said about the party of the current mayor, Valérie Plante. Given her announced departure, aspirants to the leadership of Projet Montréal have until January 31 to express their interest.

Mr. Marissal is not one of them. “Project Montreal seems self-sufficient to me, then they tell it to anyone who will listen, so it’s correct,” he said on the sidelines of his party’s caucus in the National Assembly.

Since the MP does not intend to swell the ranks of Projet Montréal, he notes that “there are not 56 ways of doing things” at the municipal level.

We must “found a new party, found a new movement,” he stressed. “So that takes time. It requires consultations. »

In his opinion, Montreal “needs a new leadership “. “Is it me?” I don’t know. I need to answer that question,” he said, saying he was tormented by “heavy thoughts”.

“Montreal is not doing great, let’s face it,” he continued. “And I’m Montrealer too, first and foremost. Is this where I want to put my energies? Am I the person who could unite a new movement? »

Vincent Marissal is committed to completing his reflection shortly. “It won’t be very long,” he said. Municipal elections are scheduled for November 2, 2025.

So far, six people have entered the race for leadership of Projet Montréal: the former president of the party, Guedwig Bernier, the mayor of Plateau-Mont-Royal, Luc Rabouin, the mayor of Côte-des-Neiges– Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Gracia Kasoki Katahwa, the mayor of Lachine, Maya Vodanović (who withdrew from the race on January 21 and gave her support for Luc Rabouin), the mayor of the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension district, Laurence Lavigne Lalonde, and the councilor in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie Ericka Alneus.
