In Geneva, the right-wing majority of the Grand Council adopted two laws on Friday aimed at limiting public spending in the event of a budget deficit. The people will be called to vote on one or both laws.

Fourteen months later, the two texts urgently returned to the agenda after having been amended in committee to clarify points raised by the executive.
“It is a question of putting a legal framework on our expenses, as the Confederation has done,” indicated the PLR Jacques Béné, majority rapporteur. The two laws will apply in the event of a budget deficit to limit the increase in costs to the increase in the population and freeze the creation of new positions.
